Note: This photo was taken at “film speed asa 1240” through the tinted bus window as the bus was driving at about 100 Km per hour on Highway 150 in southern Mexico. In the upper left of the photo is Pico de Orizaba, the highest peak in Mexico. At 5675 metres, Pico de Orizaba (also known as Citlaltepetl - Star Mountain - in the Nahuatl language) is a dormant (not extinct) volcano that last erupted in 1846. It is the highest peak between Colombia and the Yukon and is the third highest mountain in North America after Denali and Mount Logan. Orizaba has permanent snow and a glacier at its summit.

Casa Sheila, Manzanillo Reef, overlooking Bahia Puerto Angelito, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico. CDN$25.46 per person per night (based on a weekly rental). June 20, 2008. Note: When I (Warren) was 19, and travelleing in Mexico in January 1974 I came upon the tiny village of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaco. I stayed many days, exploring the beaches and surrounding areas. On the edge of town was this beautiful tiny bay called Puerto Angelito and a secluded beach. I sat on that beach looking out over the bay and surrounding rocky point. Fast forward 35 years and Connor, while exploring the Internet for places to stay in Mexico found a house for rent in Puerto Escondido. Much to our surprise when we arrived and looked at the view from the house, that it was overlooking the same small bay that I sat on back when I was 19. That beach is seen in the background. A very funny feeling 35 years later !

The woman is preparing her ‘mate’ (pronounced ma-tay) which is a type of tea consumed by many people from Uruguay and Argentina. The mate is placed in a mug made of wood or gourd to which 80 degree C water is added (exactly 80 degrees C). The mate is then consumed through a metal strainer-like straw called a ‘bombilla’. It doesn´t taste very good to me.

Note: This scene at the outskirts of the town of Puerta Iguazu, where some protesters have blocked the entrance into town. Traffic is held up for an hour to an hour and a half when the protesters let about 30 or 40 vehicles through the line. We encountered this blockade several times while in Puerto Iguazu.
