Room 62, Palacio Hotel, Bartolomé Mitre 1364, Montevideo, Uruguay. CDN$12.50 per person per night. June 7, 2008. Note: This photo was taken from the room balcony. The woman is preparing her ‘mate’ (pronounced ma-tay) which is a type of tea consumed by many people from Uruguay and Argentina. The mate is placed in a mug made of wood or gourd to which 80 degree C water is added (exactly 80 degrees C). The mate is then consumed through a metal strainer-like straw called a ‘bombilla’. It doesn´t taste very good to me.

Seat 25 (full cama or bed), Omnibus Via Bariloche, Coche 8880, Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. CDN$68.13 per person per night (17 hour overnight bus including meals). June 2 2008. Note: This scene at the outskirts of the town of Puerta Iguazu, where some protesters have blocked the entrance into town. Traffic is held up for an hour to an hour and a half when the protesters let about 30 or 40 vehicles through the line. We encountered this blockade several times while in Puerto Iguazu. It was always peaceful.  Photo taken from the top level of the two level bus.
